Slow Coffee in Brooklyn - Handmade Creativity

It was a cool crisp Saturday in Feb, and we were walking in a hurry to meet Monica of Aili Jewelry at her studio in Columbia, Brooklyn. Then, Garry and I saw something that made us not only stop but cross the street to take a closer look: A garage filled with the warmth of the sun, smell of fresh hot coffee, and sacks of coffee beans. Dominic has been running Kings Coffee out of this garage with his brother, since taking over the business from now retired Mister Joe of ItalCoffee where the Palastro brothers apprenticed.
This place didn’t feel like a coffee shop. It was rather a friendly, warm, and familiar hangout where friends and neighbors stopped by, and everyone took the time to enjoy a slow cup of coffee. Every cup was made with care and nothing was rushed… even in Brooklyn.
And, yes, despite being a little late, we did something we never think of doing… we waited for our cups of coffee and chatted with Dominic. Thankfully, Monica forgave her with a big smile when we apologized and presented her a cup of this slow hot coffee.
